Wastewater Problems We Solve
Most system problems show up as a symptom first: a smell, a grease mat, a sludge blanket that keeps rising. Start with what you’re seeing, find the likely cause, and see how Titus Wastewater Solutions equipment fixes it.

Grouped by where the problem happens, plus the goals operators bring to us most often.
Lagoon & Pond Problems
Treatment lagoons, ponds, and basins
Lagoon Sludge
Sludge depth keeps rising, floating sludge, and treatment capacity shrinking.
Lagoon Odor
Rotten egg or septic smells drifting off the lagoon, especially in spring.
Lagoon Aeration
Low dissolved oxygen even though the aerators are running.
Mixing & Turnover
Dead zones, short circuiting, and seasonal turnover that upsets treatment.
Lagoon Algae
Green water and algae swings that push TSS up.
Winter Operation
Ice-up and treatment that drops off when temperatures fall.
Collection System Problems
Lift stations, wet wells, and manholes
Lift Station Odor & H2S
Hydrogen sulfide odor, corrosion, and complaints near the station.
FOG in Lift Stations
Grease mats in the wet well and pumps that keep clogging.
Wet Well Mixing
Rags, solids, and buildup that need constant vac truck visits.
Manhole I&I & Access
Rainwater getting in at manholes, and covers that are easy to open.
By Goal
What operators want to improve
Lower Aeration Energy Cost
Power bills climbing without better treatment to show for it.
Lagoon Aerator Maintenance
Constant aerator repairs and boat work to service equipment in the water.
Industrial Wastewater
Loads that swing with production and upset the treatment process.
Problems solved in the field
Each case study is tagged with the problem it fixed.
Lagoon sludge, lagoon aeration
Clearing the Waters
A Michigan community’s lagoons revitalized with floating aeration.
Lift station odor, FOG
Odor and FOG Be Gone
Lift station odor and grease brought under control.
Odor control
A Solution to Smell
East Bay Municipal Utility District odor control with advanced oxidation.
Treatment performance
Carleton, Oregon
Treatment plant optimization with Titus aeration.
Not sure what’s causing it?
Symptoms overlap. Odor can come from sludge, low oxygen, or poor mixing. Tell us what you’re seeing and we’ll help you find the root cause.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my lagoon smell worse in spring?
As water warms, stratified layers turn over and bring low-oxygen water and gases from the bottom to the surface. Continuous mixing that keeps the water column from stratifying reduces that seasonal spike.
How do I know if sludge is affecting treatment?
Rising sludge depth from a sludge survey, floating sludge, odor, and creeping BOD or TSS are common signs. A sludge survey is the most reliable starting point.
Is adding more air always the fix?
Not always. Oxygen only helps where it reaches, so circulation and mixing often matter as much as the amount of air delivered.
Can one system solve more than one problem?
Often, yes. Because odor, sludge, and low oxygen share root causes, improving mixing and aeration can address several symptoms at once. Our team can tell you what to expect for your system.
